This
is a very strange drawing, not sure why it turned out the way it did.
It depicts four odd characters relating to each other in some fashion.
I'm hoping in the near future to transfer this and some other drawings
to canvas, however it would mean getting myself a studio. For some reason
Kathy is not fond of the aroma of turps. Go figure.

The
figure of the young girl looks to the viewer in a nervous fahion, possibly
unsure of what the others in the image are doing. Found the Chinese
dragon gown.in a book of famous photos, this one of Nureyev, the Russian
Ballet dancer. Apparently flamboyant didn't quite describe his lifestyle.
I also gave her a lily to suggest innocence.
Then
there are the two central figures. Not innocent. In fact just a little
bent. Note that the female figure is dressed like a male and the bald
male is masked and dressed as a female. I dunno. It just felt right.
Like the toes?

Harlequins
are fairly standard images. I like them because they feel so normal. Very
little pretense and an ability to try things without too much care for
the outcomes. After all if you're already the fool, what do you have to
lose? This fellow is entertaining the troops by dancing around a rat he
is tempting with cheese he holds in his right hand. |

This started out as a joke in class. One of my students
was having a hard time getting started so I began a drawing with him just
randomly adding ideas. Any ideas. This is called trying desperately to
get a rise out of the kids. It got weird but I liked it. You're looking
at a second version of the drawing, this time on good paper. There is
a young girl with a chewed up rose, a very large rat, (have you seen The
Princess Bride?) and a young man trying to overcome his fear. I really
enjoyed the windows. A friend, who is an architect told me to change the
two frames in the original drawing to a single casement with two separate
windows. I hope that seems more real. Again, I get to rethink the whole
image if I ever get to a canvas. |

Here's
a little image that was quite instructive. A musician friend came to
me with a request for a caricature of his friend who was having a significant
birthday, or at least a significant birthday party. His wife wanted
a funny picture and my friend referred her to me. It was tough to find
the time or the interest to put this together. It finally got done when
I asked the woman to make a donation to our student outreach program
in payment.
